Job Description: We are seeking dedicated and compassionate Support Workers to join our team in Wakefield and Bradford. The successful candidates will provide practical and emotional support to young people, promoting their independence and well-being. You will work collaboratively with colleagues and external agencies to ensure the best outcomes for the young people in our care.

Key Responsibilities:

Support and Care:

  • Provide practical and emotional support to young people, including those with complex needs.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of individualized care plans.
  • Support young people in developing independent living skills, such as cooking, cleaning, budgeting, and personal hygiene.
  • Facilitate access to education, training, and employment opportunities.

Safeguarding:

  • Adhere to and promote YPCC’s safeguarding policies and procedures to protect young people from harm.
  • Report any concerns about the safety or wellbeing of young people to the appropriate authority immediately.
  • Ensure all interactions are conducted with respect and in line with safeguarding standards.

Health and Safety:

  • Maintain a safe and secure environment for young people by adhering to health and safety regulations.
  • Administer medication and first aid as required, following training and guidelines.

Communication and Collaboration:

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, external agencies, and families to provide holistic support.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of interactions and progress.
  • Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and supervision.

Personal Development:

  • Engage in continuous professional development, including mandatory training and additional courses as required.
  • Reflect on practice and seek feedback to improve the quality of support provided.

Qualifications and Experience:

Essential:

  • Experience working with young people, especially those with challenging behaviors or complex needs.
  • A good understanding of safeguarding principles and practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work flexibly, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Desirable:

  • NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent.
  • First Aid and Medication Administration training.
  • Knowledge of local services and resources for young people.

Safeguarding Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all actions and interactions prioritize the safety and wellbeing of young people.
  • Complete all required safeguarding training and refreshers.
  • Report any safeguarding concerns promptly and accurately.

The successful candidate will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS check and provide satisfactory references.
